The disgraceful behavior of the Democrats, voting to hold Attorney General (AG) Barr in contempt of Congress, is yet another example of how the Democrats ignore the rule of law to get revenge for losing the presidential election in 2016.
The Democrats know that if AG Barr provided them with the full Mueller report, he would be breaking a federal law that Congress itself passed.
No act, it appears, is too outrageous for the House Democrats to engage in as to them, as other dictators have adhered to in the past, the end justifies the means.
The Democrats continue to demonstrate they will engage in any and everything, legal or not, true or not, to defame, humiliate, and destroy anyone associated with President Trump.
Unless the Republicans take back Congress, we run a serious risk of permanently engraining the subversion of our democracy and way of life.
What Contempt of Congress Really Means
Contempt of Congress is a complicated law. Intrinsically, it is tied to the House of Representative’s power to legislate under the Constitution and, by extension, prosecute anyone who impedes Congress in pursuing their duty.
Congress passed a federal law in the 1930s making contempt of Congress a misdemeanor whenever someone “willfully makes default, or … refuses to answer any question pertinent to the question under inquiry.”
The House or Senate must pass a resolution naming the person and making the charge.
Once that is done, the local U.S. Attorney receives the case for the prosecution.
Why a Contempt Vote Is Machiavellian Posturing
The Democrats are well aware that a contempt vote against AG Barr is strictly Machiavellian posturing.
The Democrats know that the contempt citation is an attempt to force AG Barr to break the law, regarding grand jury confidentiality so innocent people were protected. The 6E Grand Jury Proceedings in the Mueller report are, by federal law, passed by Congress.
Congress issued a contempt citation against AG Eric Holder for refusing to turn over the “fast and furious” fiasco material when Obama was president.
As Eric Holder said at the time, he could not do so as he would be breaking the law. Despite the contempt citation, the courts never charged Holder, and the issue died.
Of course, no Republican threatened Holder like Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn did.
Cohen told CNN that Congress needs to send the Sergeant of Arms to physically arrest AG Barr and place him in confinement until he cooperates.
The real reason
The real reason is simple. Do anything, smear, lie, create diversions, avoid any legislation even if the Democrats agree with it, or whatever it takes to stop Trump from being reelected.
As Representative Al Green. D-Texas, stated this week, “I’m concerned if we don’t impeach this president, he will get re-elected.”
The Democrats are desperate. Even though there are many areas they could work collaborative with the President to help their constituents and all United States citizens, they refuse due to the vitriolic and unhinged hatred of Trump.
How to Stop this Harassment of Honorable Men
The only way to stop this nonsense is to vote these poltroons out of office.
We must take back the house and our country before the Democrats subvert our Democracy permanently.
